In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end management of ocean import and export operations within an NVOCC environment. You will provide strategic direction, operational leadership, and regulatory oversight for all ocean freight services, including FCL, LCL, import, and export shipments. This position serves as the subject matter expert for ocean freight operations and is responsible for driving operational excellence, developing team performance, maintaining customer satisfaction, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations.

About the Role

We are looking for an Ocean Branch Manager to lead our ocean operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end management of ocean import and export operations within an NVOCC environment. You will provide strategic direction, operational leadership, and regulatory oversight for all ocean freight services, including FCL, LCL, import, and export shipments. This position serves as the subject matter expert for ocean freight operations and is responsible for driving operational excellence, developing team performance, maintaining customer satisfaction, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, oversee, and direct all ocean freight import and export activities to ensure operational efficiency and service excellence.
  • Partner with Finance and Branch Leadership to review account profitability and recommend strategies to improve margins and operational performance.
  • Review and manage month-end reports, P&L performance, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable activities.
  • Oversee shipment accounting functions, ensuring accurate revenue recognition, cost allocation, and timely financial reporting.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, ocean carriers, and third-party service providers.
  • Address and resolve customer inquiries and escalations to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with customs regulations, trade laws, and all applicable import/export requirements.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs for productivity, accuracy, quality, and customer service performance.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching, and support employee development initiatives.
  • Serve as the senior escalation point for key customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Hire, train, coach, and develop employees while managing performance in accordance with company policies and procedures.

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in international logistics, preferably with an international logistics provider.
  • Minimum 2 years management experience in an International Freight Forwarding role.
  • Hands-on experience with FCL, LCL, and co-loading operations.
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, coach, and mentor successful teams.
  • Strong understanding of ocean freight operations, customs compliance, and international logistics processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive KPIs, operational performance, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Strong customer service, problem-solving, and relationship management skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including verbal, written, and presentation abilities.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Hazmat/Dangerous Goods experience.
  • CargoWise experience.
  • Experience working directly with ocean carriers and key industry partners.
  • Strong understanding of cross-border logistics, trade compliance, and global supply chain dynamics.
  • Strategic and analytical mindset with the ability to balance operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
